Last Updated: July 24, 2025
Welcome to Codetape! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Codetape website, VS Code extension, and services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by [Your Company Name] ("Codetape", "we", "us", or "our").
Please read these Terms carefully before using the Service. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms, then you may not access the Service.
1. Service Description
Codetape is a developer tool that allows users to record screen and voice walkthroughs ("Recordings") and integrate them with their software development workflow, particularly with pull requests on platforms like GitHub. The Service includes a web application for managing Recordings and a VS Code extension for initiating the recording process.
2. User Accounts
To use Codetape, you must register for an account. You can register using your email address or by connecting your GitHub account. You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for any activities or actions under your account. You agree to notify us immediately upon becoming aware of any breach of security or unauthorized use of your account.
3. User Content
You retain full ownership of all content you create, upload, or store on the Service, including your Recordings, transcripts, and any associated data ("User Content").
By using the Service, you grant Codetape a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting purposes), and display your User Content solely for the purpose of operating, providing, and improving the Service.
You are solely responsible for your User Content and the consequences of posting or publishing it. We do not endorse any User Content or any opinion, recommendation, or advice expressed therein.
4. GitHub Integration
To enable the full functionality of the Service, such as automatically posting Recordings to pull requests, you must install the Codetape GitHub App on your selected repositories. This integration requires certain permissions:
- Repository Metadata (Read-only): To identify your repository and branch information.
- Pull Requests (Read & Write): To listen for new pull request events and post comments containing your Recordings and summaries.
Codetape will never access, read, or store your source code. Our access is limited to the metadata required to provide the automated workflow.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service for any purpose that is illegal or prohibited by these Terms. You agree not to:
- Upload or share content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or infringes on any third party's intellectual property rights.
- Engage in any activity that interferes with or disrupts the Service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its related systems.
6. Payments, Subscriptions, and Refunds
All financial transactions related to the Service are governed by our separate Payments & Refund Policy. All payments are processed by our third-party Merchant of Record, Polar.sh.
7. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your account and bar access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach the Terms.
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us or through your account settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. Codetape makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the Service's reliability, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Codetape, its directors, employees, or partners be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Service.
